Isabela had been lying on her couch for most of the time since the Monte Carlo affair, and given Aaron's work schedule and Jack's having a life, she'd been left alone a bit. It had been all right for a while, but sometimes she wondered if she wasn't going a bit stir crazy. She was able to get up for a while, but she was still a bit gimpy. It hurt, and made her a bit grumpier. She'd had it healed as far as she could, but there was still tightness, still pain. It irritated her that everything wasn't completely back to normal.

Hotch was aware of this. That was why when he came home from work that day, it was three hours early, and with a few things. A deck of cards was one of them, as well as a bouquet of lilies and dinner. He smiled when he opened the door, hoping his beloved hadn't jumped out of a window. "Isabela?"

Isabela had been trying to read a book, but it wasn't going well. She blinked, craning her neck toward the door. "You're back early, you darling savior of my sanity." She got up, but perched on the side of the couch, smiling and hoping she didn't look as frayed as she felt. "Slow day?"

"Worried about you." He smiled and handed over the bouquet, heading into the kitchen to get plates for the dinner he'd brought home.

Isabela smiled, taking it and limping after him, figuring she could sit at the table or maybe look for a vase if she put her weight on her good leg. She still felt a bit awkward around him; the question he'd half-asked her hung over everything. All she could do was try to act like it didn't. "I never thought a few hours in a pleasant little room could be so wearing on one's mind. I got up and went to get a book at one point, but I paid for that." She'd ached for the next hour.

"Do you need more of your painkillers? It takes longer to get over if you force it." He knew from experience; he'd pushed himself too hard after he'd been stabbed by Foyet and as such, his scars had remained deeper, and his pain had been intensified.

He went to put the flowers in a vase, setting them down by her. Then he got out plates, scooping fettucini alfredo onto her plate. He sat down next to her to rub out her shoulders, shaking his head. "You're too tense."

"No, I can handle that." She still wasn't comfortable with the painkillers; it didn't sit well with her to have that woobly feeling. "It's an ache, nothing more." She knew he worried, but she wasn't about to budge on that. She'd survived worse.

She watched him move around the kitchen, shaking her head. "You don't need to bloody wait on me, really, I should - mmng." Damn him, when he started to rub at her shoulders her English turned into a very undignified noise. That was excellent.

He smiled and continued rubbing her shoulders. He understood she didn't like painkillers, but soothing other parts of her body and minimizing stress elsewhere helped. "Isabela, I want to wait on you. Don't deprive me." He nibbled her ear gently before resuming. "You eat."

Isabela made a faint grumbling noise, but did her best to keep it quiet. "I don't want to look ungrateful." It was her way of apologising, because, well, she didn't want to look ungrateful. It was just ... odd. Still, she could learn to be more gracious. His intentions were good.

"I did the same thing when I was in your position. I ripped out far too many of my stitches. Jack had to come sit in bed and read to me to get me to sit still." He smiled and kissed her cheek. "I love you. Indulge me."

She had a few stitches, but only a few. Still, she understood, and said as much. "I'm trying." Isabela smiled, catching his hand briefly. "I don't want Jack to come and sit on me." She chuckled. She had no doubt that the little one would do just that. "He stares at me like I've hidden his doll he sleeps with." She'd almost cried when she'd seen him after coming home from the hospital and he'd just looked so ... hurt.

Hotch smiled and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her gently. "He's worried about you. He loves you too." He kissed her temple, still massaging her shoulders and upper arms. "I explained to him that you'll be fine, that you're just a little sick and need time to get better. I think he just remembers ... well, when it happened to me."

Isabela just nodded; she couldn't blame Jack, frankly. She hadn't been able to watch that bit of the television series. "It's unusual for me to have to let an injury heal on its own, honestly." She chuckled, leaning back against him. "That's what Anders was for; he could heal anything. But guns are just ... I don't know, he didn't have enough magic to heal it all." It had been more than a bit sobering, honestly.

Hotch nodded, waiting for her to be mostly finished with her food. When she was, he smiled and picked her up into a fireman's carry, finding her light body easy to manage. He kissed her gently, carrying her to the bedroom. "You'll be fine eventually. It will just take time."

Isabela eeped when he picked her up, laughing and kissing him on the cheek. "Maker, you really are an utterly hopeless romantic." It was frankly adorable. She felt rather lucky that she got to see this side of him. "I'd say you'll sweep me off my feet, but well." He'd already done that in more than one sense of the word.

"Don't tell anyone, not many people know." He smiled and set her down on the bed, kissing her deeply before ducking off to the kitchen to clean up.

When he returned to the bedroom, his tie was loosened and the first two buttons of his shirt were undone. He sprawled out next to her on the bed, taking her hand and kissing the knuckles.

"Oh, trust me, that's my secret, darling." Isabela winked. Penelope had sort of an idea, but she wasn't about to give details. She rolled over on her side, looking up at him fondly when he came back in and sprawled down with her. "Jack still at class?"

"Just curious. I've been very careful to avoid any traumatic experiences for either of them." She scooted closer, burrowing against his side. She kissed his neck, smiling. "I think half the time the mere fact we sleep in the same bed makes him uncomfortable."

"The elder. He's too observant for his own good." Isabela chuckled. She shifted, wincing faintly, her leg wrapping around his. She went for a proper snog, brushing her hair behind her ear. "I thought you'd tell me not to go back to Monte Carlo," she admitted, an embarrassed smile floating across her face. "I ought to have known better." He wouldn't try to control her like that.

"They can. It was more of a subversive gesture, a subculture mocking the mainstream." He bit his lip when he saw her with the tie around her neck, flushing when he thought of other uses for them. "And what of your culture? What were your things? Besides elvish transvestites?"

That got a belly laugh out of Isabela; she'd seen that moment in the video game where they'd had the deep-voiced, sweet-looking elf at the Rose. "Magic," she finally answered, idly toying with the ends of the tie, wrapping them around her hands and letting them go. "I don't think there's a mage alive who's above adding a little firepower through their talents. Very much about power, with most of them." She smiled, kissing him. "Pity I'm not a mage." Though it wasn't as though she didn't know how to add firepower.

He smiled, taking the tie from her and idly tying it around her wrists. He showed her the few knots he knew how to tie, knowing she'd be amused that he'd paid attention to that particular detail when he was a scout.

Oh, she was. More than amused. "I'm not surprised you were a good student." Isabela laughed, snogging him good and proper. There was no way on Thedas or Earth that he'd have done that right after they'd met. "I'm impressed."

"I am too." Isabela sighed, turning over to lay on her back, resting her arms above her head. "I'll always need a boat. But Gypsy's got quite a few fond memories already." She smirked, unable to stop the laugh. "Neither of us will hit our head here, though. There are some perks." Gypsy did have a bit of a low ceiling, and it did tend to ruin the mood when one bashed the back of their head on the material whilst otherwise engaged.

"Agreed. Mm." Isabela purred at that little nibble, but her wrists were starting to cramp. "Half a minute." She squirmed, bringing her arms down in front of her, twisting her wrist to slide the slip knot off. He'd tied it reasonably loosely, so it wasn't hard. "There. Carry on."

"You tied it loose. If they're tight, it's going to take longer and bloody hurt." Isabela smiled. One of her hands ran through his hair, more affectionate and casual than needy. "And I'll be all right, honestly; I could probably use more sleep. I know you're not as busy as you used to be, but you still have better things to do."

"Everyone knows Garcia's part of my team, and everyone knows you're my girlfriend." He smiled and dragged his teeth down the swell of a breast, before moving to kiss her. He'd long ago had a picture of himself and her framed on his desk. It was how everyone had known he was stupid over her.

Isabela didn't know about any picture. For now she just sighed, wrapping her arms around him when he kissed her, moving her gimpy leg out to one side, just in case. It was daytime, so they'd likely just fool around, but she wasn't about to object to that. She rather liked that he'd let himself just fool around with her now.

He slid calloused fingers up her back, fingers rough from too long holding guns. He massaged lightly, turning his head to nibble her neck. He hated to think of her alone on her boat with nobody to help care for her.

He might have worried about her, but it was to her everlasting gratitude that he did his best not to coddle her. She was a grown woman and had been taking care of herself for ages. Being looked after was a perk, not a necessity. Even now his fingers were rough, and that suited her fine. Isabela wrapped her good leg around his, making a pleased noise as he nibbled a little harder.

She couldn't help but laugh at that. "Why do I get the feeling she scolds you a lot?" Isabela slid her own shirt off, tossing it across the room, but before she could go on, she caught a glimpse of something in the daylight. There was a thin scar on his chest she'd never noticed before. Usually they shagged with the lights off, and honestly, aside from washing, he didn't take off his undershirt very often. She sat up, her hands on his shoulders, wanting to touch it, but not sure she ought to.

She took it as an implicit okay to touch, and she did, slowly, figuring they didn't hurt, but still. Isabela realized as she touched them that they were in a pattern; they had to have been inflicted by one person. Her lips compressed, wondering just how many people he'd come across who were capable of that. Even she had never indulged in what looked like careful, meticulous torture.

She didn't say anything; she wasn't sure why he'd closed his eyes specifically. She just wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him again.

He didn't want to say anything; it would ruin the mood, and he didn't want that. But it was odd - it was the first time that he'd ever had anyone touch his scars with anything that wasn't clinical curiosity or revulsion.

Wrapping his arms more firmly around her, he nibbled her lower lip gently, running his hands down her shoulders.

Isabela just shrugged, pulling him back down on top of her. He'd looked wary for a fraction of a second, and she wanted to make sure he didn't need to be. It didn't change anything about how she felt or how she saw him, after all. "I love you," she murmured, smiling. It needed to be said.

Oh, yes, there it was, that faintly awkward feeling. She shook it down and wriggled her trousers off, wincing when she needed to use her gimpy leg to brace weight on for a moment. Isabela figured they probably had two and a half hours left and should probably make the most of it. Sex did get ruined when one's son came in screaming.
